Animal Health & Welfare
As animal owners and carers we all wish to make the most educated and informed choices for our pets. Most already use the services available to us such as vets, dog groomers, pet shops, kennels or catteries.
However it is often wise to bring in other services and viewpoints to obtain the maximum benefits for our pets and become educated to make these choices.
1. Diet – have you ever looked at what is actually contained in your process dog foods? Do you know the protein levels required for the type, age and life style of your dog or cat? Have you considered feeding a natural or raw diet? What is best for your own individual pet? Does your pet have health issues that can benefit from a change of diet?
2. Vaccination – are you an owner who just goes with the norm? Have you ever considered that vaccinations may not be necessary for your dog / cat every year? They may even be detrimental to those with weakened or poor immune systems. Have you ever spoken to your vet about having a blood test done to determine the requirement of extra vaccination? 3. Exercise – is your dog getting enough or too much exercise for its age? Have you considered that mental and nervous energy use is of equal importance as physical exercise? Have you considered that these are daily requirements and also relative to the amount of time your pet spends in human company? Does your pet get regular interaction with its own species?
4. Alternative Therapies – there are many and varied therapies available to support your animal these days and with internet searches it is relatively easy to find local sources. I have a number of contacts for people local to Bucks – please do Ask. My other website [email protected] is helpful for Animal Communication, Reiki Healing, Colour Mirrors Healing, EFT & Matrix Reimprinting. The resources section is also helpful on both websites.
5. Companionship – many of us are all too aware of the companionship that our animals give us but do we always consider the mental anguish cause by leaving animals, particularly dogs for extended periods of time. This is often brought to light when behavioural issues start to develop. Please do check out the kennel club, RSPCA and Blue Cross recommendations for timings considered appropriate for animals to be left on their own. This is particularly important for re homed or rescue animals. It is now vastly considered completely inappropriate to leave dogs at home either over night or whilst on holiday. This is based on social and interaction grounds as well as safety and insurance. Many would describe this as being irresponsible animal ownership – lets face it when we take on an animal it becomes dependent on us and this is our commitment to them. For those who do not wish to use kennels or catteries, there are now lots of Pet Sitting Services available. However you may have family members or good friends that are happy to support you. This is an expense that should be considered along with others when we take on an animal.
